Day One At Grandma’s

The next morning Shonda was awake before everyone. She got up off the couch, folded the blanket and picked up the pillow. She quietly took it back to one of the bedrooms. Today was a good day for her. She said her prayer and dicided to begin her day. She went to the bathroom took a shower. Headed to a bed room with her suitcase changed her clothes then went to check on Max. He was still asleep. The sun had not even begun to set in the sky. Shonda went back into the house, she took her phone up to see twenty seven missed calls and twenty five messages. She put the phone back on the couch and headed to the kitchen. She wasn’t ready to deal with what ever drama played behind all those calls and texts. The day before was crazy enough and all she wanted was a little escape.

In the kitchen she went to he Grandma’s refrigerator. She opened the door and saw so many ingredients her heart began to sing a happy song. She smiled to herself for she had a love for cooking. Cooking took away the pains and sorrows of the world. She decided she was going to make some waffles with chocolate chips, blue berries and strawberries. She made her batter then poured enough mixture onto the waffle iron. As time passed by she made waffles for everyone for breakfast. She fried some eggs, bacon and and sausages which she knew her mom and grand mom would love. She even made some for Max. She got some oranges and grapefruit from the refrigerator and cut them in halves she then passed them through the juicer and made fresh citrus juice.

She took the serving for bacon and eggs she made for Max out on the front porch to him. She sat with him while he ate. After he almost finished she went back inside. This time her mom and grand mom were both awake. They were surprised to see her up and about after everything that happened but they both decide not to mention anything to her. She looked at them both and smiled she asked them if the were hungry, because she was famished. She went to the kitchen and placed all that she had made on the dining table adding the bottle of whipped cream. Her mom and grand mom looked at each other puzzled. Never the less the three of them sat down to breakfast. Waffles never tasted so good. Her mother and grandmother complimented her in a job well done. She replied, thank you I learnt from the best.

After breakfast the adults both had many things to do so they left Shonda alone. She went back to the living room, took her phone off the sofa and headed to the front porch where Max was. He was happy to see her and thus wagged his tail and jumped on her lap as she sat on the chair. She played with him a little then checked her calls and messages. Majority of them came from Emanuel. He was worried about her, they had not spoken in a while and he wondered how she was doing. She did not even know where to begin. She decided to call him, he answered his phone on the third ring. He was elated that she returned his call. After all the pleasantries she told him about her encounters. He was in shock, he could not believe what he was hearing. He got silent for a moment, you could have heard a pin drop on the other end of the call.

Their conversation turned from pleasant to him being extremely worried about her. His passion about her seemed to be burning through his thoughts. He was happy she was out of harm’s way but was unhappy that he could not help.he the way he wanted to. They spoke to each other for about an hour and a half. Shonda ended the call on a high note then she just sat there on the couch with her dog staring into the distance. Just letting her mind wonder. She eventually dosed off. She slept for about half an hour then Max licked her face and she woke up. It was around One PM when her mom came home to check up on her. Stacy had gotten a call from the detectives whom were working the case. They asked her if she could meet some where public to have a meeting but they would require both parties to be present.

Stacy told her daughter to get dressed and the both headed to a small cafe about Five Km from Maribel’s house. The detective arrived shortly after. The had news about the vehicle and the two suspects. The vehicle was registered to someone named. Kevin James. It was reported stolen a couple days before the incident. The officers took out Three files and place them on the table in front of both Shonda and her mother. They opened the first one it was information about the vehicle. They asked questions, particularly if she had see it before. Which she admitted she did. She told them of the horrific day she had encountered the strange vehicle as it followed her out of her school compound.

She gave them all the details that had taken place on that eventful day. The detectives made notes in their pocket books. Next they opened the other two files. There were pictures of the both men in the files. Honda’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at the photos. She quickly dabbed at her eyes with her hand kerchief. The officers wanted to know of these were the men whom had assaulted her. A lump formed at the back of her throat and she couldn’t answer. The officer told her to take her time, she looked at her mother and Stacy knew just what to do. She wrapped her daughter in her arms and held her tightly until her daughter was calmed.

Still in her mother’s embrace she replied to their question with a yes. The detectives looked at one another then back to Stacy and her daughter. They told Stacy that that was all the questions they needed to ask and the will be intouch soon. The officers got up from the table and left Shonda and Stacy sitting at the table. Stacy ordered a chamomile tea for her daughter. It did not take long for the order to be served. Shonda drank the tea and was instantly calmed. They left soon after, on the way back to grandma’s house Stacy decided to stop at the supermarket. They purchased a few necessities including dog food and were on their way. Back at grandma’s they prepared for dinner. Maribel came home around four thirty PM. She greeted everyone and headed to her her room soon after she took a shower and was fresh as a bunch of Roses. For dinner they had string beans, mashed potatoes, baked chicken and fresh salad. After dinner Shonda fed Max then went to the living room to watch the television. Her mom and grand mother retired to the back yard as usual to reminisce about the days events.

That night they all went to bed early. Tommow was a another day once God spared their lives.
